Subscription Seats
Configure subscription charges based on seats, licenses, or other provisioned units.
Subscription Seats
Subscription seats let you charge customers based on the number of users, licenses, or other provisioned units included in a subscription.
Vayu calculates the recurring charge by multiplying the subscription price by the configured seat count:
Subscription Price × Number of Seats = Total Subscription Charge
For example, a subscription priced at $100 per seat per month with five seats produces a monthly charge of $500.
Configure Seat-Based Pricing
To add seats to a subscription:
- Create or edit the applicable plan or customer contract.
- Select the subscription product.
- Select Modify.
- Under Pricing Settings, select Add Seats.
- Enter the number of seats.
- Review the calculated charge and save the configuration.
Vayu uses the configured seat count when calculating recurring subscription charges.
You can also apply a fixed or percentage discount to the subscription. Review the resulting charge to confirm that it matches the agreed commercial terms.
Configure the Subscription Schedule
Seat-based subscriptions use the standard subscription scheduling options.
Review:
- Period: Defines the period covered by the subscription price.
- Billing Interval: Defines how often Vayu generates the charge.
- Contract Upfront: Charges the applicable contract term upfront.
- Postpaid Billing: Generates charges after the relevant billing period.
- Custom Start Date: Defines when billing begins.
The price period and billing interval can be different. For example, a subscription priced monthly and billed quarterly produces a charge covering three monthly periods on each quarterly invoice.
Change the Number of Seats
You can adjust the seat count during the contract lifecycle.
- Adding seats increases the recurring charge.
- Removing seats decreases the recurring charge.
- Mid-cycle changes can generate prorated charges based on the effective date.
Before confirming a seat change, review the effective date and resulting draft invoice to make sure the new charge is correct.
For more information about contract changes, see Contract Lifecycle.
Seat-Based and Usage-Based Pricing
Seat-based pricing charges customers for provisioned access, while usage-based pricing charges for measured consumption.
A contract can include both models. For example, a customer might pay a recurring charge for 20 seats plus a usage-based charge for API calls.
For more information about metered pricing, see Usage-Based Fees.
Before Activating the Contract
Confirm that:
- The subscription price represents the price per seat.
- The initial seat count is correct.
- The price period and billing interval match the contract.
- Billing timing and proration match the agreed terms.
- The draft invoice shows the expected seat quantity and total charge.
For general subscription configuration, see Fixed Fees.
