Phases

Create phased contract agreements where payment terms change throughout the contract lifecycle

Overview

Use contract phases to manage agreements where payment terms change throughout the life of the contract. A phase represents a version of the contract terms for a defined period.

A new phase records the updated pricing, products, discounts, commitments, or billing terms from the selected effective date.

Use phases when the commercial terms change, such as a price update, an upgrade or downgrade, or added or removed products. Phases are not for correcting mistakes. For the difference between editing a contract and adding a phase, see Contract Lifecycle.

Creating a Phase

To add a phase to a contract:

  1. Open the contract from Customers or from the contracts list on the Pricing page.
  2. Select + New phase.
  3. Set Phase effective as of to the date the new terms start.
  4. Choose a Label to identify the phase. Optionally, name the phase.
  5. Select Go to plan builder > to configure the phase's pricing and products, then select Update contract.

+ New phase appears once the contract has an approved invoice. Before that, use Edit to correct the contract instead. See Contract Lifecycle to choose between them and to learn how phases affect invoices.

Use Cases

Contract phases are useful for tiered pricing rollouts, pilot-to-production transitions, seasonal pricing, graduated commitments, renewals, and product expansion.

Example: A customer starts with a pilot package for the first three months. After the pilot, a new phase begins with production pricing, higher commitments, and additional products.

Managing Phases

Each phase operates as a distinct pricing period within the same contract. When a phase's start date is reached, Vayu applies the phase terms and generates invoices according to that phase's configuration.

There is no separate Phases tab on the contract overview page. To review phase versions, open the contract's Product Provision area and use the version selector.

Inflationary Uplift

Inflationary Uplift allows Vayu to automatically increase subscription pricing over time based on predefined uplift rules. Instead of manually updating pricing for renewals or annual increases, Vayu automatically creates updated pricing phases when an uplift takes effect.

This helps maintain pricing continuity across long-term contracts while reducing manual operational work for finance and revenue teams.

Enable Auto Price Uplift

To enable Inflationary Uplift:

  1. Create or open a contract.
  2. Add a subscription product.
  3. In the right-hand sidebar, open Pricing Settings.
  4. Under Auto Price Uplift, toggle the setting on.
